Private Residence 2 – Toronto
In this Toronto home our Metz floor from the Atelier Collection takes center stage and is a true conversation piece. We caught up with the home owner and project designer recently who says she’s constantly receiving compliments on her renovation project, and particularly on her beautiful oiled hardwood flooring. Working in the travel industry and being a bit of a jetsetter, the home owner’s design choices were inspired by one of her favourite New York hotels. She tried to recreate the vibe of the hotel in her own house, mixing very modern design features with rustic floors throughout. She loves how her Atelier Metz floors compliment and soften up the modern elements, and there is no shortage of compliments for the winning modern/rustic combination.
The customer travels around the world often and wanted to use a rustic, natural looking wood floor to contract and compliment the modern clean lines of the other décor elements like the kitchen cabinets, bathroom vanity, and furniture. She had seen an older, wide plank hardwood floor during a visit to Europe and was hoping to recreate the look for her own home. At the same time, there was a budget in place as the floor was part of a total house renovation from the ground up so finding a solution that would work within the budget was also a priority.
The customer chose the Atelier Collection Metz hardwood flooring in the rustic grade. The multi-tone colour of the Metz derived from the smoking treatment and multi-stage oil staining process was exactly the colour required for the décor. The rustic grade was selected because it shows a full natural colour variation and the presence of knots that give it an authentic appearance. To help maintain the budget the customer selected the 180mm (7”) width, instead of the 220mm width, which still provides the wide plank look at a more economical price.
