Victoria's European Flooring has stepped up for Habitat for Humanity, donating $10,000 (Cdn) in premium hardwood flooring for the non-profit organization's local Flex Plex project.
The award-winning, five-unit development at Saanich, Blanshard and Bethune streets, built in partnership with Canadian Home Builders' Association (CHBA) - Victoria and funded in part by the Governments of Canada and British Columbia, will make home ownership a reality for five low-income, working families.
The contribution speaks to both a personal and a company philosophy about supporting the local community, explains European Flooring Victoria Zech Inkster, Western Canada manager.
"The quality of the premium hardwood flooring - certified by the Forest Stewardship Council as coming from eco-friendly sources and free of formaldehyde and other off-gassing chemicals - means these homes are finished beautifully with a product that will last a lifetime," Inkster notes.
"It's a way for us to give back to the community that has supported us so well, in a meaningful, personal way."
Such in-kind donations are essential in allowing Habitat for Humanity to continue building affordable, quality homes with local families.
"Donations of time, talent and treasure are what makes it possible for Habitat for Humanity to make affordable home ownership possible," says Gord English, Chair of Habitat for Humanity Victoria's Board of Directors. "Donations of quality floor coverings are like icing on the cake and have added quality finishing to this project would not otherwise have been possible. Habitat for Humanity and the Canadian Home Builders' Association continue to have a great relationship, in part due to the generous support of members such as European Flooring."
